Dr. Wayne Pegram

Dr. Wayne Pegram was born March 7, 1938, in Nashville to the late W. Orbin and Vella Sullivan Pegram.

Dr. Pegram was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. He was director of the Cookeville Community Band and the Big Band Sound. He was a retired TTU music professor and director of the Tennessee Tech Marching Band.

His many years as TTU Marching Band Director, his passion for teaching and his expectations of nothing less than excellence from his students, led him to become inducted into the Tennessee Music Educators Association's and the Tennessee Bandmasters Association's Halls of Fame.

His students have become some of the most respected band directors in the region and country. He will be remembered for his contributions to the community especially in the realm of the arts, his legacy as a band director and especially in the hearts of each and every student who he inspired over the years.

His family includes his wife of 51 years, Elaine Cate Pegram (whom he married Aug. 15, 1959, in Monterey); three sons and two daughters-in-law, Eric and Marsha Lynnette Pegram and Jonathan Pegram and Clara Ray, all of Cookeville, and Joseph and Yeyen Lim-Pegram of Jakarta, Indonesia; two granddaughters, Cypress and Monica Pegram; a grandson, Dustin Pegram; a sister, Joanna Rice of Nashville; a niece, Elizabeth Mangrum of Brentwood; and three great-nieces.
