Currently the Cookeville Fire Department has an ISO Class 2 Protection rating. Protection to the citizens of Cookeville is provided by 4 stations.
Fire suppression- is provided by various rated pumpers capable of pumping up to 2000 gallons per minute. Each apparatus is fully equipped and ready to respond to an emergency at any time. The fleet of apparatus includes:
First Responder/Emergency Medical Assistance is provided by our cross-trained fire fighters. We have 12 Paramedics, 35 EMT’s, and 1 First Responder. Each station is staffed with various levels of medical responders that support Putnam County Emergency Medical Services. Both agencies respond to serious and life-threatening calls and depending on the location of the call a fire apparatus may arrive to assist the injured before the Ambulance arrives. Both agencies work to provide a timely response to the sick or injured, while acting in a professional manor.
Rescue Services - are provided by the firefighters at each station. Rescue equipment is carried on all front line apparatus, all of the firefighters have been trained in rescue techniques and the use of the rescue equipment.
Hazardous Material Team - Firefighters volunteer to be members of the Haz-Mat team. In addition to regular training, the Haz-Mat team members receive additional training to prepare them to handle Hazardous Material spills and leaks. Each member of the fire department has received training in dealing with Hazardous Materials, but the Haz-Mat team training is more detailed.
The Cookeville Fire Department fire investigation team is assisted by Arson Detection Dog (Shelby), which was provided by State Farm Insurance Services. Shelby is constantly trained and recertified annually to be able to recognize 64 different flammable liquids and compounds. Shelby is the second detection K-9 to be maintained by Lieutenant Donnie Vinson. Shelby is an asset available to surrounding fire departments and enjoys visiting schools.
