The Cookeville Board of Zoning Appeals meets monthly, when business dictates, on the 2nd Thursday at 5:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Cookeville City Hall. The agenda deadline is the 3rd Monday of the month prior to the scheduled meeting. If the deadline falls on a city observed holiday, the deadline is extended one day. All meetings of the Board of Zoning Appeals are open to the public.

The Board is Composed of five members appointed by the City Council. The members serve three year terms.

The Board of Zoning Appeals is responsible for interpreting the provisions of the Zoning Code when necessary and for hearing and deciding upon appeals regarding the administration of the Zoning Code. The Board also reviews and makes decisions on requests for special exceptions as specified by the Zoning Code and has the authority to hear and decide applications for variances from the terms of the Zoning Code. Decisions of the Board of Zoning Appeals cannot be appealed to the City Council.
