Nine full-time dispatchers staff the Communications Section with assistance from eight reserve dispatchers. These individuals are an integral part of the Cookeville Police Department and are highly trained to handle emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely and precise manner.

Dispatchers are responsible for obtaining as much information as possible from callers in every kind of situation. They must remain calm and supportive in emergency conditions. The patrol officers rely on this information every time they respond to a call.

Communications personnel dispatch over 27,000 calls per year as well as providing continuous support to patrol officers and detectives.

The Communications Center includes the latest in computer technology with Computer Aided Dispatch software and National Crime Information Center software. This equipment aids law enforcement officials in researching suspects, and allows dispatchers to have instant access to arrest warrants, civil papers, local criminal histories and prior arrest photos.
