The Information Systems Management Section maintains all data processing and computer-based systems in police department headquarters as well as department sub-stations. This includes electronic information and records management, electronic access to other law enforcement and government agencies, computer mapping, Computer Aided Dispatch, and all other aspects of computer hardware and software administration.

Every aspect of department operation relies on our main computer system. The main servers operate every day… 24 hours a day. All access to this system of servers is through a department-maintained high-speed (and high security) network, using personal computers. This includes Internet access, electronic mail services, and any other services necessary based on job assignment.

This same computer system supports a Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD) that is in use continuously. CAD is specifically designed to provide rapid and intelligent service call management and police dispatch. The system rapidly provides necessary information to patrol officers and detectives as well as providing other features dedicated to officer and citizen safety. Visual mapping interfaces are now being integrated into the CAD system.

As a companion to CAD, the Police-Pak records system integrates all reports and other data into a centralized system. This information is easily retrievable for reference and analysis and allows officers and shifts to quickly share information. Using laptops installed in police vehicles, officers complete their reports electronically and have access to data while on patrol.

David Hunter is our Systems Administrator, and Boyd Fox is our NCIC Supervisor. They are currently planning the implementation of a live Mobile Data Terminal system which will give patrol officers immediate access to the main computer system. This will give them instant information such as 'wanted person' checks, drivers license checks, etc. and will allow the officers to communicate with all other electronic systems of the department using the laptops in their vehicle. This same system will also use automatic vehicle location services through the use of an integrated GPS system.
