Criminal Investigations Division

Personnel assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division provide a wide variety of investigative and technical services for the department. Our detectives are police officers with extensive experience and training who are responsible for investigating all serious crimes that occur in our community. Unlike larger departments, our investigators are responsible for solving crimes from the initial crime scene process through the prosecution of the criminals. This includes all the follow-up investigations and interviews, locating and apprehending the suspects, and working with the District Attorney.

Personnel are assigned, usually based on expertise and interest, to one of several functional sections for the investigation of specific types of crimes. Then, working together, these individual sections and units contribute to the overall mission of the Criminal Investigations Division. Captain Nathan Honeycutt is responsible for this division and can be contacted by email at nhoneycutt@cookeville-tn.org.

Additional Responsibilities

Investigators also perform many "extra duties", such as serving as Cookeville-Putnam County Crime Stoppers Coordinator, managing Victim/Witness Services and participating in the Regional Organized Crime Information Center program. In addition, personnel in the Family Protection Unit administer the S.A.F.E.T.Y. Program and the supervisor of the Drug Enforcement Unit serves as the Director of the 13th Judicial District Drug Task Force.
