Public Works are "works" that provide facilities and services essential for "public" use or enjoyment. Our responsibilities are to the citizens in providing a safe and clean community in which to live.
The Cookeville Public Works Department employs around sixty persons and has more than eighty vehicles and equipment to carry out its service for over 200 miles of streets. The Public Works Department is responsible for the City's Fleet Maintenance, Street and Right-Of-Way Maintenance, Sidewalk Repairs, Drainage, Brush, Leaf, and Snow Removal, Street Cleaning, Street Signs, Engineering, Road Projects and Traffic Signals.
We also provide weekly curbside garbage collection to over 11,000 households and commercial collection to over 700 businesses and industries.
